The Family Day of the business devision "military aircraft" of the European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company (EADS) in Manching was under the motto "40 years Manching". With this event the EADS honored the long tradition of aircraft manufacturing at Manching.
Since 1961 aircraft like the legendary F-104 Starfighter, the F-4 Phantom and the Tornado were manufactured at Manching. At present Manching is home of the Eurofighter production line, giving the German Airforce and Navy it's weapon system of the future.
Besides the Eurofighter production the EADS at Manching provides maintenance services and modifications for the weapon systems, transport and mission aircraft of the German Bundeswehr and their NATO partners.

The site at Manching is also home of the "Willi Messerschmitt Foundation" which hosts a unique flying museum. The star of the collection is a Messerschmitt Me-109 G-6 (D-FMBB). It was modified out of a spanish built aircraft (Hispano HA. 1112) and an original DB-605 engine. After an accident in 1983 the aircraft was refurbished in 1986.
Besides the "Gustav", as the Messerschmitt Me-109 G-6 is also called, several other vintage aircraft are maintained in airworthy condition. The collection also hosts a Messerschmitt Me-108 Taifun (D-ESBH), a Hispano Ha-200 Saeta (D-IWMS) and a Messerschmitt Me-109 G-10, which will be flying from 2002 on for the foundation.

Unfortunately the weather wasn't on the photographer's side that day. The weather changed from dark clouds to rain and back the whole afternoon. With the help of an ISO 400 film, a calm hand on the trigger and a protecting umbrella at least some reasonably good pictures came out in the end.
