Info Box
More than 250.000 visitors found their way to the AirPower05 in Zeltweg from June 24th to 25th to see one of Europes biggest airshow events. The 'Hinterstoisser' Airfield is located in the beautiful scenery of the Murtal valley which gives the airshow a very special atmosphere.

Like in the years before the airshow had to offer a wide variety of aircraft, from vintage aircraft like the Messerschmitt Me-109 or the famous Corsair to the lastest high-tech fighters of today. The Eurofighter definately was the star amongst the fighters presented during the AirPower05. The Eurofighter will the replace the Saab 35 'Draken' of the Austrian Air Force and will enter service from 2007 on. The AirPower05 was the last official event to see the good old 'Draken' in action as they will retire end of 2005. In the meantime the F-5E Tiger II will fill the gap until the arrival of the Eurofighter.

The Austrian Air Force presented their whole flying inventory to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Austrian armed forces.

Traditionally the AirPower05 is a meeting place for the most famous European display teams. In their action packed flying display teams like the 'Red Arrows', 'Frecce Tricolori', 'Patrouille de France', 'Patrulla Aguila' or the 'Patrouille Suisse' showed their precision manouvers.

The weather was - as usually during the AirPower - excellent, if their weren't these nasty thunderstorms, that come crawling through the valleys of the Steiermark region. On Friday we were lucky and besides some afternoon clouds there was no sign of rain or lightning. But then on Saturday, after the breathtaking heat of the day, a giant thunderstorm came up and stopped the show for almost two hours.
